Impact of diabetes mellitus on survival in patients bridged to transplantation with left ventricular assist devices in the United States
ASAIO Journal Aug 03, 2019
Al-Kindi SG, et al. - Researchers sought to examine how diabetes mellitus (DM) influence the outcomes in patients supported with left ventricular assist devices (LVAD). From the United Network for Organ Sharing, they included a total of 4,978 patients who were listed for heart transplantation and bridged with continuous-flow LVAD in the United States from 2000 to 2015. Of these, 33% had DM. As per observation, DM was not correlated with an increase in wait-list mortality or delisting but was associated with decreased posttransplantation survival.
