Journal of The American Society of Echocardiography May 19, 2018
Ng ACT, et al. - In this retrospective multicenter study included patients (with type 2 diabetes and without diabetes) of increasing body mass index (BMI) category and normal left ventricular (LV) ejection fractions, researchers determined the additive detrimental impact of both diabetes and increasing BMI category on LV myocardial systolic and diastolic function, as assessed using echocardiography. Findings demonstrated an additive detrimental impact of both diabetes and increasing BMI category on LV myocardial systolic and diastolic function. Moreover, increasing BMI category was found to be related to greater LV myocardial dysfunction relative to diabetes. Frequent coexistence of these was reported.
