Impact of comorbidity burden on morbidity following thoracoscopic lobectomy: A propensity-matched analysis
Journal of Thoracic Disease Apr 11, 2018
Zhang R, et al. - Given the positive effect of a thoracoscopic approach on improving postoperative outcomes, researchers assessed the influence of comorbidity burden on adverse postoperative outcomes in patients undergoing thoracoscopic lobectomy for early-stage non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Propensity score matching and random effects model were performed and the Charlson comorbidity index (CCI) was used to assess comorbidity burden. Even in the presence of multiple comorbid diseases, thoracoscopic lobectomy could be performed with low mortality and reasonable morbidity in lung cancer patients. No perceptible impact of having a high comorbidity burden measured by CCI on adverse postoperative outcomes was evident following thoracoscopic lobectomy.
