Impact of comorbid polycystic ovarian syndrome and gestational diabetes mellitus on pregnancy outcomes: A retrospective cohort study
BMC Pregnancy and Childbirth Aug 28, 2020
Manoharan V, et al. - Researchers conducted a retrospective cohort study including women diagnosed with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) on 75 g oral glucose tolerance test on routine antenatal screening tests in order to ascertain if comorbid polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) affects pregnancy outcomes among women with GDM. They included 1,545 women with GDM, 326 of whom were diagnosed PCOS. Observations revealed independent value of PCOS as risk factor for the development of preeclampsia and significant gestational weight gain. Hence, they emphasize vigilant monitoring of blood pressure, blood glucose levels and body weight, and implementing timely interventions to improve obstetric and neonatal outcomes.
