Impact of cirrhosis on 90-day outcomes after percutaneous coronary intervention (from a nationwide database)
The American Journal of Cardiology Feb 18, 2020
Lu DY, Steitieh D, Feldman DN, et al. - Researchers assessed 90-day outcomes of percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) in patients suffering from cirrhosis. They used the Nationwide Readmissions Database (2010-2014) to identify patients undergoing PCI and stratified by the presence of comorbid cirrhosis. They assessed total death during index admission and 90-day readmissions and readmissions rate. They also compared adverse events: bleeding, stroke, kidney injury, and vascular complications. A significantly higher number of comorbidities were present in patients with cirrhosis. Findings revealed a significantly higher risk of adverse consequences including death, readmissions, and adverse events in the 90 days after hospitalization for PCI in patients with cirrhosis vs the general population.
