Impact of chronic kidney disease on mortality and cardiovascular outcomes after acute coronary syndrome: A nationwide data linkage study (ANZACS-QI 44)
Nephrology Mar 04, 2020
Pilmore HL, et al. - Given the association of chronic kidney disease (CKD) with an increased risk of cardiovascular disease, researchers here investigated the characteristics, management and outcomes of patients with CKD in the All New Zealand Acute Coronary Syndrome Quality Improvement (ANZACS-QI) national registry. From January 2013 to December 2016, 20,604 NZ patients with an ACS underwent coronary angiography. Among these, 20.3% possessed normal renal function, with 53.3%, 23.3%, 1.7% and 1.4% having CKD stages 2, 3, 4 and 5 CKD respectively. The analysis revealed a correlation of CKD with raised mortality and a high incidence of morbidity in patients undergoing coronary angiography in New Zealand. More frequently, patients with severe CKD were MĀori or Pacific and live in an area with greater socioeconomic deprivation. An incremental increase in death, recurrent myocardial infarction or stroke, and major bleeding was observed with each worsening stage of CKD severity.
