Impact of body mass index on perioperative outcomes of endoscopic pituitary surgery

American Journal of Rhinology & Allergy Jul 27, 2018

Lee YJ, et al. - In a multi-institutional database study, authors evaluated the correlation between body mass index (BMI) and postsurgical outcomes of endoscopic pituitary surgery (EPS). They identified the patients who underwent EPS from 2005 to 2013 from the American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program database. Findings suggested safety of EPS as a treatment option for pituitary lesions in the obese population. Nonetheless, increased risk of medical complications and prolonged operating times were seen in obese patients undergoing EPS, this did not influence the mortality, reoperation, or readmission rate.
