Impact of body mass index on outcomes after thoracic trauma – A matched-triplet analysis of the TraumaRegister DGU
Injury Oct 05, 2018
Schieren M, et al. - Researchers evaluated the impact of body mass index (BMI) on patient outcomes following thoracic trauma in this matched-triplet analysis of the TraumaRegister DGU®. Findings suggested that obesity may have an adverse effect on outcomes following blunt chest trauma, as it is related to prolonged duration of mechanical ventilation, and intensive care unit and hospital length of stay. The researchers, however, found that mortality was not affected, and reported that BMI did not affect the need for prehospital or emergency department interventions.
