Impact of body constitution on complications following pancreaticoduodenectomy: A retrospective cohort study
International Journal of Surgery Oct 21, 2017
Ekström E, et al. - Authors in this study assessed the impact of body constitution, measured with different anthropometric measures, and diabetes on complications following pancreaticoduodenectomy (PD). Findings suggested an association between body constitution and the risk of severe complications following PD. Identification of risk groups could be performed by using body mass index (BMI), body surface area (BSA) and body fat percentage (BF%). Significantly increased risk of developing postoperative pancreatic fistula (POPF) grades B and C was evident in overweight and large patients in comparison to patients with coexisting diabetes.
