Impact of beta-blockers on cardiopulmonary exercise testing in patients with advanced liver disease
Alimentary Pharmacology and Therapeutics Aug 17, 2017
Wallen MP, et al. – This study aims to ascertain the impact of beta–blockers on cardiopulmonary exercise testing variables in patients with the advanced liver disease. In patients with advanced liver disease taking beta–blockers, ventilatory threshold is reduced compared to those not taking the medication. For patient management before and after liver transplantation, this may incorrectly risk stratify patients on beta–blockers and has implications. The oxygen uptake efficiency slope is not influenced by beta–blockers, therefore, may be a better measure of cardiopulmonary performance in this patient population.
