Impact of aura and status migrainosus on readmissions for vascular events after migraine admission
Headache: The Journal of Head and Face Pain Jun 28, 2018
Ostojic LV, et al. - In this large, nationally representative retrospective cohort study, readmission rates for acute ischemic stroke (AIS), transient ischemic attack (TIA), subarachnoid hemorrhage, and intracerebral hemorrhage after an index admission for migraine were assessed. Researchers identified 12,448 index admissions for migraine; of these, 9,972 (80.1%) were women, the mean age was 45.5 ± 14.8 years, aura was present in 3,038 (24.41%), and status migrainosus was present in 1,798 (14.44%). They observed migraine admission with aura to be independently associated with TIA readmission, and status migrainosus to be independently associated with subarachnoid hemorrhage.
