Impact of anaemia on acute stroke outcomes depends on the type of anaemia: Evidence from a UK stroke register

Journal of the Neurological Sciences Oct 18, 2017

Barlas RS, et al. - The authors evaluated the effect of anaemia on stroke on the basis of anaemia subtype. In terms of inpatient mortality and post-stroke disability, hypochromic microcytic and normochromic normocytic anaemia were correlated with differing outcomes. The subtype of anaemia appeared to be relevant in stroke prognosis, while it remained unclear if anaemia per se or another underlying cause was responsible for adverse outcomes.
