Impact of allergies on health-related quality of life in patients with asthma
Journal of Asthma Aug 03, 2019
Sullivan PW, Kavati A, Ghushchyan VH, et al. - Researchers examined a managed care population of asthma patients with and without comorbid allergies in order to estimate the health-related quality of life (HRQoL) and health utilities among these individuals in this retrospective analysis. They analyzed patient survey responses and pharmacy claims from the Observational Study of Asthma Control and Outcomes (OSACO). Between April-2011 and December-2012, four identical surveys were administered in patients ≥ 12 years-old with persistent asthma. The first survey in the OSACO study was completed by 2,681 people with asthma. Among these, the presence of comorbid allergies was reported in 971. In this study, the presence of allergies with persistent asthma was related to a significant deleterious influence on various distinct measures of HRQoL.
