Impact of age at diagnosis on natural history of patients with elderly-onset ulcerative colitis: A French population-based study
Digestive and Liver Diseases Apr 27, 2018
Duricova D, et al. - Experts examined the upshot of age at diagnosis on the natural history of elderly-onset ulcerative colitis patients with stress on the disease presentation, phenotype and treatment. The enrollment consisted of elderly-onset patients with ulcerative colitis (≥60 years at diagnosis) registered in a French population-based Registry EPIMAD (1988-2006). More rectal bleeding and abdominal pain was found among patients aged <70 years. On the other hand, those ≥70 years reported higher rate of left-sided colitis. the inference drawn was that subjects with elderly-onset ulcerative colitis varied with regard to the presentation, disease phenotype and response to medication in terms of age at diagnosis.
