Impact of adrenaline dose and timing on out-of-hospital cardiac arrest survival and neurological outcomes
Resuscitation Apr 18, 2019
Sigal AP, et al. - Researchers investigated how time and dose of adrenaline are associated with the return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC) and neurologic function. Via retrospective analysis of the Penn Alliance for Therapeutic Hypothermia (PATH) data registry, 5,594 patients were identified, of whom 1826 were included in the final analysis after exclusion for history of in-hospital cardiac arrest, a non-shockable rhythm, or no adrenaline administration. Observations revealed a higher percentage of survival to discharge but not favorable neurological outcome among those who received adrenaline early. Administration of a lower total adrenaline dose prior to ROSC was reported in patients with a favorable neurologic outcome.
