Impact of acquisition parameters on dose and image quality optimization in paediatric pelvis radiography - A phantom study
European Journal of Radiology Jul 19, 2019
Ali AM, et al. - Via a phantom study, experts demonstrated data from dose optimization studies using digital radiography and pelvis phantoms representing 1 and 5-year-old children. Optimized techniques, with diagnostically acceptable image quality, for each pediatric age were 1-year-old, 65 kVp, 2 mAs and 115 cm source-detector distance (SDD), while for 5-year-old it was 62 kVp, 8 mAs and 130 cm SDD both involved 1 mm Al +0.1 mm Cu additional filtration. An elevation in the main effect analysis identified situations in which image quality and radiation dose rose or declined, except for kVp which exhibited peak image quality when exposure factors was noted. For producing diagnostic image quality, a set of minimum mAs values were recognized. Unlike the other exposure factors, increasing SDD demonstrated no trends for generating non-diagnostic images. Therefore, to ascertain suitable acquisition factors, the factorial design gave an opportunity. Moreover, a method for examining the combined effect of multiple acquisition parameters on image quality and radiation dose for children was given by this study.
