Impact of a multidisciplinary care bundle for necrotizing skin and soft tissue infections: A retrospective cohort study
Annals of Intensive Care Oct 31, 2019
Urbina T, Hua C, Sbidian E, et al. - Researchers investigated how management and outcome of patients with necrotizing skin and soft tissue infections (NSTIs) could be influenced by a multidisciplinary care bundle involving the creation of a multidisciplinary task force; management guidelines on empirical antibiotics, intensive care unit admission criteria, a triage algorithm to accelerate operating room access; and an active communication policy. Comparisons were performed among patients with NSTIs admitted between 2006 and 2017, based on admission prior to or following the implementation of bundle (2012–2013). Findings revealed the feasibility of implementing a multidisciplinary care bundle for NSTIs but it was not related to significantly increased survival following adjustment, as revealed in a retrospective analysis from an already experienced center.
