Immunological response and clinical profile in patients with recurrent dermatophytosis
Mycoses May 28, 2021
Jha K, Shaw D, Karim A, et al. - This study was undertaken to investigate the delayed type of hypersensitivity (DTH) response and immediate hypersensitivity response by flow cytometry assessment of immune cells from peripheral blood and intradermal trichophytin skin test in patients with recurrent dermatophytosis. Researchers recruited a total of 100 individuals with recurrent dermatophytosis and 50 controls (healthy controls and acute dermatophytosis controls). They examined relevant risk factors for recurrence and calculated serum IgE levels. They further performed flow cytometry evaluation of immune cells in peripheral blood and intradermal trichophytin skin test. As per the findings, in patients with recurrent dermatophytosis, reduced IFN-γ+, Th1, IL-17+, and Th17 cells population along with impaired DTH response by the intradermal test was observed.
