Immunological effects among workers who handle engineered nanoparticles
Occupational and Environmental Medicine Sep 01, 2017
Glass DC, et al. – This study investigated the impact of occupational exposure to engineered nanoparticles (ENPs) on inflammation and changes in lung function among workers. Among workers who handled versus who did not handle nanoparticles, even low ENP exposure triggered significant increases in three cytokines over the week. However, no measurable changes appeared in spirometry, fraction of exhaled nitric oxide (FeNO), C-reactive protein (CRP) or blood cell counts in those who were exposed to low and transient levels of nanoparticles.
