Immediate treatment vs active-surveillance in very-low-risk prostate cancer: The role of patient-, tumour-, and hospital-related factors
Prostate Cancer & Prostatic Diseases Nov 17, 2018
Jansen H, et al. - Experts sought to provide the insight in the treatment variation of very-low-risk prostate cancer patients. They also evaluated the role of hospital-related factors. They identified all the patients diagnosed with very-low-risk prostate cancer (cT1c-cT2a, PSA < 10 ng/ml, Gleason score <7 and <3 positive cores) in 2015 and 2016 through the population-based Netherlands Cancer Registry. The active-surveillance (AS) was used to manage the majority of Dutch very-low-risk prostate cancer patients but variation between hospitals exists. Patient- and tumour characteristics explain the part of the variation but also hospital-related factors play a role. Findings suggested the probability of the improvement of clinical practice.
