IL-6 and ovarian cancer: Inflammatory cytokines in promotion of metastasis
Cancer Management and Research Dec 12, 2018
Browning L, et al. - Researchers assessed the impact of IL-6 and its family members on ovarian cancer tumor growth and metastasis. Constitutive activation of STAT3 was led by IL-6-induced JAK/STAT activation, which has been associated to enhanced tumor cell growth and resistance to chemotherapy. Findings also suggested IL-6 to act as a trigger of the EMT, the hypothesized first step in the metastatic cascade. More novel treatments, detection methods, and improvement of overall clinical outcomes were probabily led by understanding the important role of IL-6 and its family members’ effects on the pathogenesis of ovarian cancer tumor growth and metastasis.
