Fraser JF, et al. - Experts identified the reasons for an overnight stay among patients selected as candidates for same day discharge (SDD) after total hip arthroplasty (THA). They also ascertained what pre-operative factors are more common among patients who fail SDD. For surgeons interested in rapid recovery THA, a viable option was same-day discharge. Change in patient preference post-operatively, despite having agreed to SDD pre-operatively and meeting all discharge criteria was the main cause of SDD failure in a pool of patients selected for SDD.
