Identifying cisplatin-induced kidney damage in paediatric oncology patients
Pediatric Nephrology Aug 24, 2017
Barton CD et al. – Cisplatin is used as a chemotherapeutic agent to treat children with cancer in multiple treatment regimens. Cisplatin–related toxicities affect the treatment and survival of children and hence it is important to understand these toxicities to enable prevention, surveillance and management. This review discusses the effect of cisplatin–induced nephrotoxicity (Cis–N) in children and the underlying mechanisms. Clinical features, identification of Cis–N and the role of magnesium homeostasis and supplementation were the primary focus of the review.
