Identification of potential prognostic microRNA biomarkers for predicting survival in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma
Cancer Management and Research Apr 23, 2018
Liao X, et al. - Researchers investigated potential prognostic microRNA (miRNA) biomarkers for the prediction of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) prognosis based on a dataset from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA). Genome-wide univariate Cox regression analysis, Cox regression analysis, and comprehensive survival analysis were performed. For prognostic signature construction, five miRNAs that were regarded as prognostic differentially expressed miRNAs (DEMs), were used. In regards to prognosis prediction, good performance of the five-DEM prognostic signature was demonstrated. Moreover, the risk score model could serve as an independent factor of HCC, and relative to other traditional clinical indicators, offered better prognosis prediction. Overall, for HCC patients, the novel miRNA expression signature may be a potential prognostic biomarker.
