Identification of novel autoantibodies associated with psoriatic arthritis
Arthritis & Rheumatology Apr 12, 2019
Yuan Y, et al. - Serum samples from patients with psoriasis (n = 73) were estimated to quantify the molecular and cellular evidence of the pathogenesis of psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis (PsA). Researchers noticed elevated levels of numerous autoantibodies in the serum of psoriasis cases vs healthy controls especially, IgG autoantibodies against 2 novel antigens, LL-37 and ADAMTS-L5. Correlation of serum levels of IgG autoantibodies against LL-37 and ADAMTS-L5 with the Psoriasis Area and Severity Index, and reflected disease progression in longitudinally collected serum samples from psoriasis cases was reported. They suggested the involvement of both anti–ADAMTS-L5 and anti–LL-37 autoantibodies in the pathogenesis of PsA as these molecules were significantly elevated in psoriasis patients with PsA compared to those without PsA.
