Identification of Pseudomonas aeruginosa and airway bacterial colonization by an electronic nose in bronchiectasis
Respiratory Medicine Mar 01, 2018
Suarez-Cuartin G, et al. - The electronic nose is a non-invasive technology capable of distinguishing volatile organic compounds (VOC) in exhaled breath. Herein, it was investigated if an electronic nose could serve as a reliable tool to discriminate airway bacterial colonization in patients with bronchiectasis. Findings showed that with the help of an electronic nose, accurate identification of VOC breath-prints of clinically stable bronchiectasis patients with airway bacterial colonization could be accomplished, especially in those with Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
