Identification of circulating microRNA profile in patients with peripheral artery disease and critical limb ischemia
Journal of Vascular Surgery Aug 26, 2018
Jain S, et al. - Considering the findings from several studies suggesting the utility of microRNAs (miRNAs), small noncoding ribonucleic acids, as biomarkers of chronic diseases (such as heart failure and diabetes), researchers investigated if miRNA can be used as a diagnostic biomarker for peripheral artery disease (PAD) and critical limb ischemia (CLI). For this purpose, they built a biobank of 1200 PAD and non-PAD patients. On performing an in-depth analysis, they identified, for the first time, novel and known miRNAs (hsa-miR-3909 and hsa-miR-483-5p) that can be used as biomarkers for CLI.
