Identification of an antigenic determinant of clavulanic acid responsible for IgE-mediated reactions
Allergy Mar 08, 2019
Barbero N, et al. - In this study, authors investigated the data to evaluate the antigenic significance of clavulanic acid (CLV) along with their specific IgE identification and the possible role for diagnosis. They found 2 synthetic analogs of AD-I (N-protein, 3-oxopropanamide) which activated the basophils from allergic cases. They noticed the ability of one of these analogs in activating the basophils in 59% of subjects and CLV only in 41% of cases. When combining both the results, they observed an improvement in basophil activation among 69% of subjects and 12% of controls. They concluded AD-I as one CLV antigenic determinant (drug fragment which remained protein-bound).
