Ideal timing of early cholecystectomy for acute cholecystitis: An ACS-NSQIP review
American Journal of Surgery Aug 26, 2019
Alore EA, et al. - Researchers sought to ascertain the optimal timing of early cholecystectomy for acute cholecystitis via analyzing data of all cholecystectomies for acute cholecystitis from hospital day (HD) 1-7 from the ACS-NSQIP database 2012–2015. Thirty percent of patients with acute cholecystitis had a delay in cholecystectomy to HD3-7. Operations on HD3-7 vs HD1 or HD2 was noted to be associated with increased 30-day mortality and morbidity. Multivariable analysis revealed the independent predictive value of HD for mortality.
