ICU readmission of patients with cancer: Incidence, risk factors and mortality
Journal of Critical Care Feb 14, 2019
AbuSara AK, et al. - In this retrospective cohort study, researchers sought the incidence and risk factors for ICU readmission in cancer patients and the association with mortality. They identified 1582 patients who were discharged from the ICU at a comprehensive cancer center over a 5-year period; readmission was observed for 313 (19.8%) of these after a median of 6 days. Observations revealed increased mortality in correlation with ICU readmission. Mechanical ventilation and thrombocytopenia at the first admission were noted to be correlated with ICU readmission.
