Hypoxaemia during recovery after surgery for colorectal cancer: A prospective observational study
Anaesthesia May 24, 2019
Bojesen RD, et al. - In this prospective observational study, researchers focused on postoperative hypoxaemia occurrence following minimally-invasive surgery in an enhanced recovery setting. They also investigated the link with morphine use, incision site, fluid intake and troponin increase. Participants were patients (n=85) with colorectal cancer who were undergoing minimally-invasive surgery between 25 August 2016 and 17 August 2017. Findings revealed a common occurrence of episodic hypoxaemia and hypopnoea episodes even with minimally-invasive surgery and enhanced recovery following surgery. No association of these episodes with morphine use, fluid intake or incision site was found.
