Hypoalbuminemia is associated with septic revisions after primary surgery and postoperative infection after revision surgery

Khanna K, et al. - Experts sought to determine the association between hypoalbuminemia and body mass index (BMI). They also determined the association of malnutrition with revision spine surgery for septic reasons as well as with infection following aseptic revision spine surgery. When compared with aseptic revision surgery, malnutrition was seen to be more common in revision spine surgery for septic reasons. Results suggested that in patients with malnutrition, acute postoperative infection after aseptic revision surgery was also more common.
