Hypoalbuminaemia at time of surgery is associated with an increased risk for overall graft loss after kidney transplantation
Nephrology Aug 31, 2018
Anderson B, et al. - Authors gauged if pre-operative hypoalbuminaemia (<35 g/L) is related to adverse outcomes post kidney transplantation. Following kidney transplantation, an independent risk factor for overall graft loss was pre-operative hypoalbuminaemia. Longer hospital admissions post-operatively were seen in the recipients with pre-operative hypoalbuminaemia but delayed graft function rates did not differ. As per data, 1-year creatinine was not different but reduced risk for cellular rejection was seen in the recipients with hypoalbuminaemia. For recipients with hypoalbuminaemia, significantly worse patient survival and overall graft survival was seen vs normal albumin levels respectively but no difference in death-censored graft survival.
