Hypertensive disorders of pregnancy and onset of chronic hypertension in France: The nationwide conception study
European Heart Journal Oct 18, 2021
Boucheron P, Lailler G, Moutengou E, et al. - Researchers examined how hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDP) are associated with the onset of chronic hypertension in primiparous women in the first years following childbirth.
Using data from the French National Health Data System (SNDS), researchers included 2,663,573 primiparous women without pre-existing chronic hypertension who delivered between 2010 and 2018 in this nationwide cohort study.
Occurrence of preeclampsia (PE) was recorded in 66,260 (2.16%) women and gestational hypertension (GH) in 113,803 (4.27%) women.
For all PE subgroups, duration of hypertensive disorders of pregnancy exposure is an additional risk factor for developing chronic hypertension.
More frequent and earlier consultation with a general practitioner or cardiologist was observed in women with HDP .
