Hypertension in obesity and the impact of weight loss

Cohen JB – Several interrelated mechanisms promote the development of hypertension in obesity, often contributing to end organ damage including cardiovascular disease and chronic kidney disease. In this current study, the accumulated data is indicative of a close association of hypertension with the prevalence, pathophysiology, and morbidity of obesity and, existence of multiple barriers is trported with respect to its management in obese individuals. In this patient population, the most promising way to attenuate blood pressure and end organ damage is surgical weight loss.
