Hypertension, arterial stiffness, and clinical outcomes: A cohort study of Chinese community-based population
Hypertension Jun 18, 2021
Zhou Z, Xing AJ, Zhang JN, et al. - To further investigate if the combination of different blood pressure and arterial stiffness (AS) status is independently related to clinical results among community dwellers, this study was undertaken. A community-based population of 5,797 individuals was analyzed to measure AS by brachial-ankle pulse wave velocity and other cardiovascular risk factors. A composite of stroke, unfatal myocardial infraction, and all-cause death, was set as the endpoint. In 346 participants, the endpoint was corroborated following a median follow-up of 6.34 years. Findings revealed a much higher risk in participants with hypertension and elevated AS compared with the other groups. The risk of clinical events may be attenuated by combined control of hypertension and AS.
