Hyperhomocysteinaemia and the risk of recurrent venous thrombosis: Results from the MEGA follow-up study
British Journal of Haematology Jul 05, 2019
Hensen ADO, et al. - Whether a link exists between the levels of homocysteine, its metabolites (methionine and cysteine), and recurrent venous thrombosis (VT) was investigated in this large population-based follow-up study. Participants included 2,210 patients with VT in whom measurements of homocysteine, methionine, and cysteine concentrations were recorded nearly 3 months following cessation of anticoagulant therapy. Participants were followed-up for a median duration of 6.9 years, during which time a recurrence was reported in 340 patients (incidence rate, 2.8/100 patient-years). Findings revealed no link of hyperhomocysteinemia with an increased risk of recurrent VT.
