Hyperchloremia is independently associated with mortality in critically ill children who ultimately require continuous renal replacement therapy

Barhight MF, et al. - Several studies have suggested that hyperchloremia, chloride load, and the use of chloride-rich fluids contribute to worse outcomes in critically ill children. In this single-center retrospective cohort study, hyperchloremia was commonly detected among critically ill children prior to continuous renal replacement therapy initiation. Notably, independent association of hyperchloremia with mortality was also observed in this population.
