Human Pegivirus infection and lymphoma risk and prognosis: A North American study
British Journal of Haematology Jun 14, 2018
Fama A, et al. - Researchers explored the association of human pegivirus (HPgV) viremia with the risk of developing lymphoma, overall and by major subtypes. Since HPgV has also been linked to better prognosis in patients co-infected with human immunodeficiency virus, its link to prognosis was also assessed. Not confounded by other lymphoma risk factors, a positive link was observed between HPgV viremia and overall risk of lymphoma and for all major subtypes, except Hodgkin lymphoma and chronic lymphocytic leukemia/small lymphocytic lymphoma. For lymphoma overall or any of the subtypes, they found no association of HPgV viremia with event-free survival or overall survival. Overall, a role of HPgV in the etiology of multiple lymphoma subtypes was demonstrated.
