Human papillomavirus seroprevalence and association with anal HPV infection and squamous intraepithelial lesions in Australian gay and bisexual men
Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention Jun 29, 2018
Poynten IM, et al. - Researchers assessed human papillomavirus (HPV) seroprevalence in Australian gay and bisexual men (GBM) in the Study of the Prevention of Anal Cancer, which represents an ongoing cohort study of GBM ages 35 years and older. They also analyzed associated predictors for concurrent high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesions (HSIL) in these subjects. They found that this cohort of older GBM commonly exhibited HPV L1 seropositivity. They also observed that concurrent HSIL was predicted by HPV L1 seropositivity, in conjunction with anal HPV DNA detection. A potentially clinically significant finding was the observed apparent association between HPV16 E6 antibodies and prevalent HSIL.
