Human papillomavirus persistence and association with recurrent cervical intraepithelial neoplasia after cryotherapy vs loop electrosurgical excision procedure among HIV-positive women: A secondary analysis of a randomized clinical trial
JAMA Aug 11, 2021
Chung MH, De Vuyst H, Greene SA, et al. - Among HIV-positive women, loop electrosurgical excision procedure (LEEP) appeared to be more effective in clearing high-risk human papillomavirus (hrHPV) infection when compared with cryotherapy, and persistent detection of hrHPV was linked with recurrent cervical intraepithelial neoplasia.
This is a secondary analysis of a randomized clinical trial.
Relative to cryotherapy, LEEP was linked with 40% greater likelihood of clearing hrHPV infection.
Persistent hrHPV detection was linked with 5 times greater likelihood of developing recurrent cervical intraepithelial neoplasia than no HPV.
