Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery Apr 19, 2021
Patel EJ, Oliver JR, Jacobson AS, et al. - Researchers conducted this historical cohort study to evaluate the testing rates and prognostic significance of human papilloma virus (HPV) status in hypopharynx malignancies. Between 2010 and 2017, a review of the National Cancer Database was performed for squamous cell carcinomas of the hypopharynx. In total, 13,269 patients with hypopharynx malignancies were identified. HPV-positive tumors constitute a sizable minority of hypopharynx tumors and are linked to improved survival. HPV testing for hypopharynx malignancies may be warranted.
