Human papillomavirus genotype and viral load agreement between paired first-void urine and clinician-collected cervical samples

European Journal of Clinical Microbiology & Infectious Diseases Feb 23, 2018

Van Keer S, et al. - In a Belgian referral population, researchers evaluated the performance and acceptability of first-void urine as specimen for the detection of human papillomavirus (HPV) DNA using an optimized sample collection and processing protocol. Based on the findings, they highly preferred first-void urine as specimen for the detection of HPV DNA. It was a non-invasive method that ensured good agreement in HPV DNA (copies) with reference cervical samples. To reach non-participants, this screening technique seemed particularly interesting.
