Human papillomavirus 16/18–associated cervical lesions: Differences by area-based measures of race and poverty
American Journal of Preventive Medicine Feb 03, 2020
Brackney MM, et al. - In this inquiry performed with residents of New Haven County, Connecticut, researchers assessed trends in cervical lesions with human papillomavirus 16/18 identified by area-based measures of race, ethnicity, and poverty during 2008–2015. They reported significant reductions in the proportion of lesions with human papillomavirus 16/18 among women aged 21–24 years and 25–29 years. Since the inception of human papillomavirus vaccines, there are evident differences in declines in the proportion of human papillomavirus 16/18 lesions by area-based measures, with greater and earlier drops noted in areas with fewer residents residing in poverty and racial minorities. To pursue variations by sociodemographic features, ongoing human papillomavirus vaccine impact monitoring is required.
