How well do the FRAX (Australia) and Garvan calculators predict incident fractures? Data from the Geelong Osteoporosis Study
Osteoporosis International Oct 24, 2019
Holloway-Kew KL, Zhang Y, Betson AG, et al. - Women (n = 809) and men (n = 821) aged 50–90 years, recruited in the Geelong Osteoporosis Study, were involved in order to evaluate the ability of the FRAX (Australia) and Garvan calculators to prognosticate fractures in Australian women and men. In women, 115 major osteoporotic fragilities (MOF), 184 fragilities, and 42 hip fractures happened and for men, there were 73, 109, and 17 fractures, respectively. In all, especially in cases with osteopenia or osteoporosis, the FRAX and Garvan calculators underestimated MOF and fragility fractures. Moreover, via both calculators, hip fractures were prognosticated better. AUROC analyses imply that for the prognostication of fragility fractures, GarvanBMD did superiorly than GarvannoBMD.
