How rare is benign paroxysmal positional vertigo in children? A review of 20 cases and their epidemiology
International Journal of Pediatric Otorhinolaryngology Mar 20, 2020
Choi HG, et al. - In this retrospective review, researchers described the clinical features of pediatric benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) and estimated the frequency of pediatric BPPV in the general population. Between 2007 and 2017, they analyzed the records of 20 children, aged 6 to 14 years, diagnosed with BPPV. In girls, BPPV occurred 1.86 times more often than in boys. Data reported that the annual incidence of BPPV was 171.5/100,000 for all ages and 9.5/100,000 in the pediatric population. The results indicate pediatric BPPV is a relatively rare cause of vertigo in children, with high rates of related illness with recurrence.
