How often is sinus surgery performed for chronic rhinosinusitis with vs without nasal polyps?
The American Journal of Rhinology & Allergy Mar 14, 2018
Ference EH, et al. - Authors aimed to draw a comparison in the rate of surgical interventions for chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyposis (CRSwNP) vs chronic rhinosinusitis without nasal polyposis (CRSsNP) in the United States. Data demonstrated that about 30% of the endoscopic sinus surgeries (ESS) were performed for CRSwNP and compared to surgeries for CRSsNP, these cases were, on average, more extensive, used more operating room time, and more often used image guidance. Based on geography, payer, and surgical volume, the rate of surgery performed for CRSwNP varied indicating that patient selection affected surgical management.
