Hospitalization risk for Medicare beneficiaries with nontuberculous mycobacterial pulmonary disease
Chest Jul 30, 2021
Prevots DR, Marras TK, Wang P, et al. - Researchers aimed at reporting the overall risk for hospitalization among patients with nontuberculous mycobacterial pulmonary disease (NTM-PD). They conducted a retrospective, nested, case-control study including 35,444 cases and 65,467 matched controls (mean age, 76.6 years; 70% female; ≥ 87% White) using the Medicare claims database. Findings revealed significantly higher likelihood of being hospitalized, greater rates of annualized hospitalization, and shorter time to hospitalization among patients with NTM-PD when compared with age- and gender-matched controls without NTM-PD. Per findings, there was significantly increased burden of hospitalizations among patients with NTM-PD.
