Hospitalization rates are highest in the first 5 years of systemic sclerosis: results from a population-based cohort (1980-2016)
The Journal of Rheumatology Jun 05, 2021
Coffey CM, Sandhu AS, Crowson CS, et al. - This research sought to correlate hospitalization among incident cases of systemic sclerosis (SSc) vs age- and sex-matched comparators. Between January 1, 1980, and December 31, 2016, researchers conducted a retrospective, population-based cohort of patients with SSc in Olmsted County, Minnesota. They randomly selected a 2:1 cohort of age- and gender-matched patients without SSc from the same population for comparison. According to the findings, individuals with SSc were hospitalized more frequently than comparators, demonstrating high inpatient care needs in this population. During the first 5 years, hospitalization rates were highest following SSc diagnosis.
