Hospital volume and outcomes of pancreatic cancer: A Finnish population-based nationwide study
HPB Nov 19, 2021
Huhta H, Nortunen M, Meriläinen S, et al. - Researchers aimed at investigating the influence of hospital volume of pancreatic surgery on long-term survival in a population-based setting.
From nationwide registries in Finland, a total of 22,724 patients diagnosed with pancreatic cancers during 1997–2016 were identified; pancreatic surgery was conducted in 1,514 due to pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma.
The 5-year survival ranged from 12% to 28%; higher annual operative volume linked with increased survival.
Analysis revealed overall improved short- and long-term survival in correlation with higher annual hospital volume of pancreatic surgery for pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma.
